106t Fabricated plate work
Completed 2018
The structure consists of a fixed steel arch, that supports a composite concrete deck with inclined square steel struts between the arch and deck. The deck merges with the arch at the crown, thereby significantly reducing the structural depth. The arch consists of a stiffened closed steel plated box, which transitions to an open trough, filled with concrete over the crown.
The complexity of the geometry and large size of the transported assemblies required accuracy of the detailing. This allowed the fabrication process to proceed efficiently.
The overall span was split into two main assemblies, which were broken down into various smaller sub-assemblies for ease of fabrication. These were assembled on a purpose-made jig in the workshop to form each half span that would be transported to site.
